Life as it passes

Well it was a busy 2010, and it appears to be an even busier 2011 to date. You'd think that we would stay put for more than a year but Lindsey and I purchased a house in North Vancouver :), at least we're not moving cities again. We'll be happy to be close to all the things we love to do, running trails, skiing, hiking, not to mention to own a house in Vancouver is a feat on its own...

Now, this means a few things, my commute to work for the 3 years that I will be on my project will be a little longer, instead of the 12 km each way it will be 26 km each way. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet. I had a little bit of a scare, scare might be a somewhat of an exaggeration. I've been having issues to the inside of my hip for some time now, the longer runs that I've been doing (32 km) seemed to be aggravating it, so I finally decided to meet up with my Physiotherapist before I go ahead and register for my first ultra. Well after one session of Intramuscular Stimulation treatment, which means "PAIN", long needles inserted into your tight muscles to try and get them to release, 7 needles to be exact, it appears everything is fine. All I need to work on is spending some quality time stretching.

The good news means I get to register for my first ultra, the 50 mile race which takes you from Squamish BC to Whistler on trails and side roads. This will be interesting to say the least. The race is scheduled for May 14th, 2011. Training starting January 17th, the weekend after our move to North Van. My running significantly increases, I go from running 3 days a week to running 5 days a week. I plan is to incorporate my running with my cycling to work, I'm certain that if I don't incorporate the two I'll be burnt out in no time.

I have exactly 16 weeks to prepare. I thought I was busy before, add a new house, a million renovations to complete and an ultra on the list, I'm not too sure what that is called but I have heard "insane" being thrown around a bit. I sure am glad my wife is understanding and supportive, if it wasn't for that, my life would be a lot different. Starting next week I'll be posting my weekly run summary, more to keep me on target of my scheduled race.

See you in the trails!!!!! A lot......

If you haven't realized I am in the construction industry, I thought this was a pretty funny video.... enjoy
